If you just want to use a different folder for all of your downloads, you can do that as well with the following steps. First, open the Files app that is located on the shelf of your Chromebook. The shelf is the bar at the bottom of the screen that has icons pinned to it and the Files app is, you guessed it, the one that looks like a blue folder.
Open that and then, right-click anywhere under the Downloads folder. You will be given the option to create a new folder and name it whatever you like. If you prefer, you can open the Downloads folder and create a new folder nested inside that folder.
Name your folder, hit enter, and close the Files app. Now, that is your default download folder. You may have noticed that Google Drive was an option when you changed your folder and you would be correct in presuming that you can select your Drive as your default downloads location. This is especially useful for uses who bounce around from device to device. Sounds great. I have even gone through a full reset of Chrome. Maybe there is a setting in your laptop that is conflicting with this one or a bug in your Chrome app.

You can adjust the Chrome download location and set it to any other directory or folder by manually tweaking the apps settings. This works to change the download folder location in Chrome for Mac, Windows, and Linux. You can choose any directory to be the new location to save files to.
If you do change the directory where Chrome saves files to and wish to revert to the default setting, simply repeating the steps above and choosing the active user accounts Downloads directory will accomplish that. This is obviously really only applicable to those who use Chrome often, either as the default web browser on the Mac or as a browser for a specific task, but you can make similar changes to where things are saved in Safari, Firefox, and Opera as well.
